about the artist

carrie "chachi" tamirez yxilmistun is a 23 year old photographer, writer, and poet based in oakland, california. born and raised in the bay area, chachi began her work documenting the ever changing area around her at the age of 13. soon after her discovery of photography, her mother passed away at the age of 14. her work documents injustice, gentrification, and the day to day life of working class americans in the bay area.

her work focuses on vulnerability, grief, and class. these topics mainly represent themselves in street photography, documentary photography, writing, and her journals. ​​
